Jayne Foxley

Speech & Language Therapist

Jayne has over 20 years’ experience of working within the Speech and Language Therapy profession. She currently works with a range of adults and children to assess and support communication and eating and drinking difficulties. Her experience includes those who have a learning disability, are Autistic, are ADHDers (or dual diagnoses), who have experienced brain injury and those who have sadly experienced developmental and often ongoing trauma. Often those she supports have experience of several of the above.

Jayne is passionate about the support that she offers and believes that there is a need to consider each individual holistically because communication is not an entity to be viewed or supported in isolation and is impacted by an individual’s experiences- both past and present.

When working with young people (all individuals actually), Jayne has a strong belief in Dr Ross Greene’s statement that, ‘(children) do well if they can’ and considers her role is to use curiosity, do her best to listen, and approach with as much understanding and compassion as possible.

Jayne has a passion for ensuring that she considers everyone that she works with in a way that reflects how she would like to be thought about and treated, particularly when discussing them or writing about them. She believes in being curious about each individual in the context of everything that they are processing and experiencing and that their ‘voice’ and what they are wanting to communicate is heard, validated and acted upon.

Jayne believes that the Speech and Language Therapy role is to work alongside the individual and the team around them to find out where support is needed. We don’t always know what to do but by working together and combining knowledge and skills, we can often come up with a way forward!

She believes in ‘know better, do better’ and reflects upon the voices of those she supports and tries to regularly listen to the voices of ‘experts by experience’ to influence and inform her practice. Jayne does her best to practise trauma informed, person centred, and neurodiversity affirming approaches.

Jayne offers training in areas that directly impact upon communication and eating and drinking.  She says this about her training “I don’t ever profess to being the absolute expert on what I deliver, but share my experience and the knowledge that I have gathered along the way.”

In addition to her own work, Jayne works with colleagues as an Associate. She has experience of working with case managers.
