Ann Huc

Occupational Therapist

Ann qualified in 1985 and since then has worked in both the UK and Romania in hospital and community settings. She has many years experience working for the NHS across the whole age spectrum in a wide range of OT specialities from child development units to rehabilitation for people with acquired brain injuries, neurological conditions and amputees.

Since the birth of her oldest daughter in 2001 Ann has passionately fought to help professionals understand the reality of having a child with additional needs and the importance of the language they use, particularly around the time of diagnosis. She enjoys collaborating with local and national charities ensuring that the voices of parents are heard. Having the opportunity to share her experiences at several national conferences was a welcome opportunity, although very daunting at the time! While working with local health and social care professionals to help shape services Ann had the privilege of presenting their work at a national conference.

During a career break from formal OT to raise her young daughters, Ann became increasingly aware that every family she met and supported had widely differing needs and there is no “one size fits all” solution. When the opportunity to move into independent practice came along in 2011, Ann was ready to take on the challenge to help create Links Therapy Company, a service that was able to be flexible and tailored to meet individual needs. It is important to Ann that everyone who has contact with Links Therapy, in whatever capacity, feels valued and respected.

INTERESTING FACTS

If you could travel back to one specific point in time, when would it be and why?

I would go back to the 1880’s to meet my ancestors and find out more about the life they lived and challenges they faced.

What’s your favourite time of year and why?

Spring – The days are starting to get longer, and I love seeing trees and plants coming back to life.

What is the best part of your job?

Meeting so many interesting people. I love working with families to help come up with practical ideas to help with challenges that everyday life can bring.

What makes you happy?

Blue skies – with either no cloud or a couple of white fluffy clouds.

What are your Hobbies and Interests?

I am fascinated by family history and have discovered that although I originate from Essex my ancestors were watchmakers from Coventry! About five years ago we started to foster dogs that are training to be Guide Dogs. It has been a great way to welcome a dog into our family without the responsibility of having a dog as a pet.
